Still I Rise
Still I Rise was produced in the Fall of 2009. The piece is based on the poem "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou. The piece tells 3 stories about women fighting through adversity. It is a very emotinally dark piece. The negative space plays as much a role as the lit space. My goal with the lighting was to illuminate the women without defining the space they were in. Each woman tells her own story through a solo. The solos and isolation convey a sense individual stories while displaying the struggle of women both as individuals and as a whole.
