Amy Maloney, Former Director of Corporate Relations at Hands On Nashville describes her experience while working with Jared.
"Jared McGowan: professional and personable, confident leader, hard worker, smart worker, calm under pressure, and decisive. These are just a few ways to describe Jared with whom I had the pleasure of working in many settings over the course of four years. I first met Jared during Nashville's historic May 2010 floods. At the time, I was the director of corporate relations and special events for Hands On Nashville, one of the nation's largest volunteer resource agencies. Jared had stepped up to help lead over 250 volunteers laying sandbags to secure a vital levy. He identified the need for active communication onsite between the city officials and the volunteers and stepped up to fill that role.
After witnessing his ability to lead during that crisis, my team and I began engaging Jared more and more in the our nationally lauded flood response which included immediate clean-up and long-term recovery. Jared's dedication to this volunteer leadership role was even more impressive knowing he was a college student and driving over 100 miles round trip to each flood project.
We quickly promoted Jared from a volunteer to contract staff. In his new role, Jared helped plan and lead employee volunteer events for local and national corporations as well as community-wide events ranging in size from 25 to 2,000 participants. Because of his professional and personable demeanor, we felt completely confident having Jared interact directly with our clients, partners, volunteers and vendors. Jared consistently showed adaptability, resourcefulness, and a high aptitude for leading hands-on projects.
Jared was always my first call for event and volunteer management support. Although he was part time, he played a key role in my department's growth and success. Jared provided thoughtful feedback during our pre- and post-event meetings which shows his dedication to continual improvement, teamwork, and professional growth. I look forward to following Jared's career as I am confident he will be successful wherever he goes."
